"Yallambee’s" Retirement Service , comprising Yallambee Retirement village and Margery Cole Residential Care Service provide high quality, independent, and specialised accommodation with recreational opportunities designed to provide security and to assist senior citizens in maintaining and enjoying their lifestyle within the community in later years.
"Yallambee" provides a unique "lifestyle" concept with the objective of making retirement years of Residents as happy and carefree as possible, by supplying self contained independent living units, involving a minimum of work and financial expense, combined with ongoing residential care (Aging in Place as far as possible) support while enabling maximum participation in the Community and in Community events and activities.
Both Low Care and High Care accommodation is provided at Margery
Cole Residential Care Service.
Home-like accommodation is provided within a communal setting but with individual rooms, equipped with semi en-suite facilities (39 rooms) and full ensuite facilities (57 rooms), for all residents. All meals are provided and assistance with the tasks of daily living, up to, but not including, all acute nursing care stage, are made available as necessary.
Residents needing High Care services, in additition to assistance with daily living tasks available to all residents, are provided with the high level of nursing care to meet their continuing medical or other disability needs.
Traralgon East Senior Citizen's Centre, where recreational and community activities including snooker, cards, carpet bowls, line dancing etc., may be enjoyed, is located on site. Traralgon Bowling Club is our next door neighbour.
Close proximity, walking distance through Victory Park, to the CBD makes shopping and business activity a pleasure, although "Yallambee" is on the Town Bus Route.
Preference in village admission is given to residents of Latrobe City and surrounding areas or to applicants who have close relatives living in these areas.
If you are of retirement age or receiving disability support, provided you are sufficiently able to cope independently with day to day living and enjoy a close community setting, then the opportunity is available to become a village resident. Couples may become residents when one of the partners meets the age criteria.
The village is a "not for profit" project with initial capital funds supplied by community donations, Municipal Council funding and Commonwealth Government grant. Independent living unit residents pay a rental comprising an Initial Rental Contribution, Ongoing Rental, and a Maintenance Rental to cover maintenance and operation of village and common facilities.
Admission to residential care is regulated by the Commonwealth Government and a current assessment (in the last 12 months) by an Aged Care Assessment Service (based locally at Latrobe Community Health Service) is required.
Low Care residents entering from the community will be required, if they are able, to pay an Accommodation Bond based on financial assessment with a portion retained by the service (regulated by the Commonwealth Government) and the balance refundable.
High Care residents entering from the community will be required, if they are able, to pay an Accommodation Charge based on a similar financial assessment; the Accommodation charge is also regulated by the Commonwealth Government.
Basic fees and any Income Tested Amount are a daily amount calculated according to government regulation and varying according to pensioner status or otherwise.
Margery Cole Service is staffed on a 24 hour basis, with trained and / or professionally qualified nursing staff. However, no medical staff are employed.
Auxiliary
An active Auxiliary exists to support "Yallambee" Residential Care Services. The Auxiliary raises funds through various activities, including an annual fete, and makes funds available for the purchase of items adding to the comfort of residents but not otherwise provided. The "Yallambee" Board of Management supports the Auxiliary and encourages membership by Staff, Residents, Families, Volunteers and the Community.

Administration
A Board of Management directs the affairs of "Yallambee", its facilities, and how services are provided. Board members are volunteers, interested in this type of project and able to contribute with specific skills which combine to further the aims and objects of the organisation. The Board, drawn from the local community, aims to maximize quality while meeting community expectations for services available at an affordable cost.

Maintenance
Staff are employed to maintain "Yallambee" Retirement village, and Residential Care buildings, equipment, appliances, surrounds and common areas; and, to provide assistance to residents in minor tasks with which they have difficulty from time to time. There is a 24 hour "on call" system for emergencies.

Resident Participation
A Residents' Advisory Committee, with staff support, is made up of residents elected from the village and contributes by bringing forward suggestions and highlighting areas of concern reported by residents which are considered for further action. The Advisory Committee nominates one member as a representative on the Committee of Management.
Residents meetings are also held, on a regular monthly basis, for Margery Cole Residential Service residents to provide opportunity for passing of information and a forum to allow concerns to be expressed; family members are also welcomed at these meetings.

Rules of Residency
A minimum number of rules have been compiled to secure the comfort and safety of "Yallambee" Retirement village and Margery Cole residents. Dogs and cats are not permitted as pets within "Yallambee" village but, providing they are well cared for and not causing a nuisance to neighbours, a pet bird is permitted.

Chaplain and Religious Opportunities
"Yallambee" encourages residents to maintain their spiritual life by making facilities available for the conduct of religious services or celebrations. A (volunteer) Chaplain is available on a non- denominational basis to talk with residents, family members, and staff who would like to share their feelings or seek comfort in difficulties being experienced. The Chaplain can be contacted through Residential Care staff or Administration staff.

Visitors
Visitors to "Yallambee" residents are encouraged, and a fully serviced and furnished Village Unit may be made available for the convenience of visiting family and friends, at a moderate charge to further this aim.
