Highlights for 2005 (Updated 11 February 2005)
Care Services & Volunteers
- Upcoming education sessions for staff and residents (families)
include -
- A thank you luncheon and presentations were made to our many Volunteers in conjuction with resident's Christmas parties to recognise and say thnk you to volunteers in many varied activities.
- HAZCON Occupational Health & Safety training for managers & supervisors as well as representative staff particularly to ensure staff are able to manage the OH & S compliance of "Yallambee" under the (new) Act.
- A number of training opportunities will be available throughout the year and our training calendar is attached. Some sessions will be suitable for residents and family members so please feel free to contact us if you wish to participate in a particular session.
- The next residential care newsletter is expected to be issued at the beginning of March and the editor will welcome your contributions.
- Items will include a detailed program of residential care activities for these months to which resident's family and friends are cordially invited to participate with residents.
Auxiliary Activities
- Staff and Residents are currently raising funds towards the
purchase of a small bus (no licence endorsement required); including wheel chair
lift capability, for use throughout the village on outings and appointments. Can
you help ? (See below)
- A Dinner Auction is scheduled for 19th February 2005 with many highly desirable auction items to be available and dinner at $ 20.00 per head. Your attendance to help make the night a success and to assist our fund raising efforts will be appreciated. The venue is Traralgon East Senior Citizen's Centre and proceedings are timed to start at 7.00pm.
- A new large screen television and DVD player, much needed, has recently been purchased by the Auxiliary for the benefit of residents at Bartling Place Service in Campbell Street.
- The Christmas raffles, our contribution to the APEX Club raffle and the Toy tip truck (made by resident Ian Oatley), were a great success raising some $ 1,600 towards the bus purchase. A total of $ 14,500 has now been raised by "Yallambee" staff and friends.
- Auxiliary Meetings are open to residents and friends of "Yallambee."
The Auxiliary seeks to enhance the comfort and well being of residents in ways
not otherwise attainable.
- The Auxiliary meets monthly on the fourth Wednesday of the
month for planning and participation.

Construction
- A Village unit, the first to have a front of unit extension, is scheduled to be converted to provide two bedrooms and additional living area space over the next two months.

- A further Village unit is to be remodelled to provide open plan living for the new resident.
- Two further (end) units are being extended to provide the
units with two bedrooms and a dining room as well as the lounge area.
- The enhancement of external security lighting throughout
the village is continuing following successful trials. This work will also extend
to the Bartling Place & Margery Cole services.
- Design of the building extension to Margery Cole and relocation of maintenance facilities is has now been completed and put out to tender. Construction of the eighteen new places from the 2003 Commonwealth Allocation Round and the 30 places for relocation of the Bartling Place residents is likely to commence early in March 2005.

Maintenance
- Vegetable Gardens affected by the prospective extension to
Margery Cole Service are being replaced and relocated to an area (see pegs) behind
the Traralgon East Senior Citizen's Club. Work is underway with completion expected during February.
- A revised organisation structure for maintenance works has been put in place following the resignation of our SMO. Bob McKenzie will be resuming this role assisted by Gardner / Maintenance Handyman
Jade.

Other News
- Re-accreditation of both residential care services for a
further three year period from August 2003 was very pleasing with all 44 standards
met.
- Our Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 20
October 2004 at 7.00 pm. Various reports, including the audited financial statements
and the mandatory Prudential Statement will be presented to members, residents
and staff.

- A new Retirement village Agreement has been prepared in conjunction
with solicitors Russell Kennedy and will apply for all enquiries from 1 November
2003.
- You will have noticed that our web site (brochure) has now
been translated into Italian, Greek and German as languages other than English
most spoken at home in this area
- Our voice-mail system is now working well. It operates
when the extension called is busy or where there is no answer after about 7 rings.
Please leave a message detailing your requirement(s) if you get that far in the
system; the call will be responded to promptly if you do.
