Construction of the Units commenced in 1971. Each
of the 110 Units is designed as a dual purpose unit for either single people or
couples, and is provided without furnishings or appliances, other than those built
in.
Units are available in a fully remodelled style, with open
planning and modernised kitchen, bathroom and laundry or, alternatively, with
minimum refurbishment only (painting and replacement floor covering as required).
Most units are suitable for
conversion to provide an additional bedroom and / or living area
and this may be arranged on request. Initial Rental Contributions have
been set relative to the style of unit chosen.
Each unit has a back and front garden area which may be planted
to the resident's taste; however, it is also the resident's responsibility to
maintain. Access to a raised vegetable plot is also available if desired.
A fortnightly amount incorporating the Maintenance
Fee and Ongoing Rental is payable, in addition to the Initial Rental Contribution
lump sum, and covers rates, building insurance and building and grounds maintenance
and other property charges. A carport or garage, if available for allocation,
can be secured for an additional rental. See the Finance Page(s) for more detailed
information.
Metered charges for gas, electricity and telephone, insurance
cover for contents, including furnishings and appliances owned, are the direct
responsibility of each resident.
Persons otherwise eligible for entry but unable to fully meet
the financial commitment for entry may apply to the Board of Management for special
consideration.
Unit Residents becoming ill or temporarily unable to care for themselves will have access to
"Meals on Feet" and to Community provided Services until health is restored;
at other times a competitively priced Meal Service is available from the Margery
Cole Service.
